I had a wonderful day today

I had a wonderful day on Saturday. This Saturday, I went to walk up Xiangong Mountain with English major friends and I had a great day.
When I don't have classes, I seldom go outside of campus. I prefer to stay at the dorm and connect to the Internet. I used to chat a lot online with different net friends but this semester I also feel it's not interesting to chat all the time online. I get sick and tired of doing this. My Australian teacher suggested me go outside of the dorm and take a visit with friends. I followed his suggestion and had a nice day.
Although it rained that day , we still felt very excited to hike. We also got a surprise there. We saw a very beautiful scenery: the trees were green, the flowers were beautiful and the air was very fresh. What's more, there were heavy fogs flowing around mountains and we seemed to live in a fairy world. I could only see this kind of scenery on TV before. I took many photos and chatted with new friends on the way. I wish I could go outside more and enjoyed my happy life .

New Semester, New Hope

Time flies. A new semester starts again. I have decided to restart writing blog in English again. I tried to write something in English last semester but I couldn't stick to it. I believe it's a good way for a Chinese person to write something about his real life in English every day in order to improve his English.
As a Chinese guy, I feel it's quite difficult for me to improve my English in a short time. I understand it's impossible to make it in a short time but can you imagin that I have learned English for about 9 years. I really want to crack English and communicate with native speakers freely.
Recently I have inspired by my students a lot. One of my American students--Brenton. He has been keeping learning Mandarin with me for over 3 months and we have a session every day. Because of time zone, he needs to get up very early in the morning which is evening for me. I haven't imagined that there is an American guy who will keep learning a foreign language in this way. He is really studious and motivated. Through working with him, I also have learned a lot. Perhaps he doesn't know, but he do inspires me a lot.
No matter how difficult it is , I will try my best to learn as much as I can. I still believe I will succeed some day. I wish I could realize my dream.

Some success finding software for teaching

I was very happy today because I found a useful software to help my student learn Chinese characters. Writing characters is a tough task for foreign students. Clay(my student)also meets the same problem. He doesn’t know how to write characters correctly and can’t memorize them. Chinese characters are new to him. As his tutor, I have the responsibility to help him solve this problem.
I’ve been thinking about it for several weeks. Yesterday, I found a software program called TalkAndWrite which supports drawing pictures and characters in a Skype window. The interface is clear and the operation of it is simple. I was very excited when I found it. The first hint came into my mind was that I should use it to teach Clay characters. But I’m not sure whether it’s good enough for me to use it because I need to use the mouse to write characters. I’m only used to writing them with pen. My online tutor Philip suggested I use a graphic pad. I am exploring this possibility. I will spend some time looking for more effective methods to apply in my teaching.

My Online Australian Tutor

I think I am a lucky guy. I met a great teacher online,Philip. He is a retired Australian man with an interest in talking with people from all over the world. Via more than a half year’s communication, his teaching abilities and personal qualities have madea deep impression on me.

When we first talked, I was very nervous and didn’t know what to say. It was my first time to talk with native English speaker.Although I had been learning English for several years, I still lacked confidence of myself. But Philip was kind and patient and encouraged me to talk as much as possible. What's more, he sends me lots of useful information to help me learn more about western society and culture. I appreciate his rich knowledge, good sense of humor , talktiveness and positive attitude towards life. I have learned a lot from him.

Nowadays, we communicate regularly online. I feel very comfortable to talk with him. It strikes me that he has a magic power that assists our conversation to flow. We have various topics to talk about and talk happily. But sometimes he is also strict with me, at least I have that feeling, pushing me to do more work by myself. Anyway, many chinese people believe that only strict teachers can teach students well.

The ideal life for ancient Chinese writers

On the bus to my teaching place, I was thinking a lot. Looking at the scenery passing by, the images of traditional ancient chinese poets and writers came into my mind. In ancient China, many of them wanted to live in a beautiful and quiet place where no people would disturb them. Their ideal environment was a place surrounded by trees and flowers where you could immerse themselves in nature. All they would hear was the sounds of the universe. They pursued a natural and simple life.

But it's interesting that most of these writers pursued a simple life after they failed to achieve success in politics.Ancient Chinese writers aimed to be successful in politics and wanted to be officers in the government. It seems that the best career for them was being an officer. But many of them couldn’t realise their dreams. After that failure, they turned to seeking a simple life close to nature. I think many of them understood that the meaning of life was not just to be officers. we can be content if we learn to accept "a simpler life".

Something about my current life

I began this blog after my online teacher and good friend Philip gave me the suggestion to write an English blog in order to improve my written English. I thought it is a great idea so I decided to take it. He said I should write down anything about my life and my feelings about my own teaching now. Indeed, I do have some feelings during teaching English to little kids and also my Chinese teaching. I enjoy both English teaching and Chinese teaching but I need to improve my English because it’s not good enough.

Nowadays, I am teaching little kids English in a small town called Chongwu in Quanzhou City, Fujian Province.I have 17 students at the moment. They are around 5—7 years old and they have just start to learn this totally different language. As their English teacher,I want to make their studies full of fun and help them learn as much as possible. Since they are very little, I think I should be responsible for their studies . Well begun is half done (hao de kai shi shi cheng gong de yi ban). If I can teach them in a correct and efficient way, I think they will learn English quickly.

I am also teaching Mandarin Chinese online. I have two regular students now, one in America and one in Japan. They are both keen on learning Mandarin and wish to master this interesting language. I have been enjoying teaching them online and I wish to work with them in a long term.
